Hi y'all!
I'm Arvindh Manian (Providence '22, Duke '26), from Providence MP. We were a pretty small team, but we saw some decent success on the NatCir! Feel free to DM me on Instagram or email me at [email protected] if you have any questions (either about this prep or debate in general).
I think our prep is probably best used as a model for lay debate. We were never crazy flow, although we prepped with some people that were.
== Sophomore Year (2019-2020) ==This was my first year doing debate (I unsuccessfully tried MUN freshman year). This year was almost entirely lay, local tournaments. We did bid at Laird, though! === September/October: Belt and Road Initiative ===Resolved: The European Union should join the Belt and Road Initiative. My first PF topic! We went to ISD, where we broke to octafinals. ==== Cases ====  ==== Blocks ====[All of it can be found [Mediahttps:BRI A2 Neg.pdf|BRI A2 Neg.pdf]]  === November/December: OCOs ===Resolved: The benefits of the United States federal government’s use of offensive cyber operations outweigh the harms. === January: Venezuela ===Resolved: The United States should end its economic sanctions against Venezuela. === February: UBI ===Resolved: The United States should replace means-tested welfare programs with a universal basic income. === March: Nuclear Energy ===Resolved: The United States should increase its use of nuclear energy for commercial energy production. === Nationals: Charter Schools ===Resolved: On balance, charter schools are beneficial to the quality of education in the United States. == Junior Year (2020-2021) ==This was my first year of actual NatCir debate! We went to like ten different tournaments, and we championed a couple. Highlights include bidding at Laird, winning ETHS, and winning NCFLs. Honestly, going 4-3 at the STOC was a pretty big highlight too. === September/October: M4A ===Resolved: The United States federal government should enact the Medicare-For-All Act of 2019. === November/December: NFU ===Resolved: The United States should adopt a declaratory nuclear policy of no first use. === January: NSA ===Resolved: The National Security Agency should end its surveillance of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. === February: West Africa ===Resolved: On balance, the benefits of urbanization in West Africa outweigh the harms. === March: Space Force ===Resolved: On balance, the benefits of creating the United States Space Force outweigh the harms. === TOC: IMF ===Resolved: The benefits of the International Monetary Fund outweigh the harmsdrive== Senior Year (2021-2022) == We didn't compete much (blame COVID and burnout!)google. I still did a lot of prep, though, so I've attached that. === Septembercom/October: Baltics ===Resolved: The North Atlantic Treaty Organization should substantially increase its defense commitments to the Baltic states. === Novemberdrive/December: Crypto ===Resolved: Increased United States federal regulation of cryptocurrency transactions andfolders/or assets will produce more benefits than harms. 1Lxs6eQmFOuB3Lg3cNhM7oBnj1AMV_Kio?usp=== January: Drugs ===Resolved: The United States federal government should legalize all illicit drugssharing here]=== March: Organic Ag ===Resolved: In the United States, the benefits of increasing organic agriculture outweigh the harms. === Congress stuff ===I also did Congress at NC States bc Billy was busy.
